HIGHAM is mostly a soup of houses built in the Sixties and Seventies with a few older properties thrown in for flavour. A Victorian two-up-two-down will cost around £130,000; a modern three-bedroom semi around £200,000. There is a hairdresser, greengrocer, three pubs and two takeaways. A campaign is underway to save the post office from closure. Gad’s Hill Place was Charles Dickens’s home from 1856 until the end of his life, and is now an independent girls’ school. He left Edwin Drood unfinished when he died in 1870.
