Shelford

SHELFORD Great Shelford and Little Shelford, with Stapleford into which they merge at the base of the Gog Magog Hills, all ooze prosperity. This is where the Cambridge wealthy – businessmen and London commuters and academics – choose to make their homes. The houses are large and secluded, with parks and other green open spaces to enhance the feeling of spaciousness. There are plenty of shops, including a delicatessen. Period houses in Great Shelford’s Mingle Lane and Gog Magog Way, which leads to the Gog Magog Golf Club, are thought to have particular appeal. A six-bedroom house with mature gardens would cost £1.4m. You don’t have to be rich to live here: there is a development close to the station with three-bedroom starter homes at £170,000. Sawston Village College, one of the much-admired Cambridge Village Colleges is the local secondary school.
