Shenfield

SHENFIELD is a mutated village but nonetheless the greengrocer and butcher know you by name. There are three parts to it: the village itself, with bread-and-butter Victorian and Thirties streets; Hutton Mount, where avenues of huge double-garaged detached houses priced at £750,000 to £2m peep out from between the trees; and Hutton proper, which is strictly Sixties, congested but more affordable. It is on London’s doorstep, just outside the M25, with the result that the station car park has been extended and is considered expensive. There are lots of wannabe-stars in the area, catered for by three stage schools, called Theatretrain, Debut School of Performing Arts and Stagecoach Theatre Arts.
