LANCING Old north and south Lancing have blended into one, and new buildings have been added to the quaint High Street. Many people commute to Gatwick and Brighton from here, but few to London. There just a couple of thatch-and-flint here among the Thirties’ terraces and Sixties’ and Seventies’ housing. A two-bedroom flat on the seafront, with balcony and garage, might cost £130,000, but a period cottage with two bedrooms is likely to be nearer £180,000. A three- to four-bedroom detached house could be bought for between £350,000 and £450,000. Lancing College, the co-educational public school, stands in 550 acres on a spur of the Downs overlooking the sea.
