Redhill

REDHILL has now outstripped its older neighbour Reigate, though it only began to sprout in about 1841 when the railway arrived. It is now heavily commercialised. There is a huge shopping centre, The Belfry, anchored around a large Marks & Spencer, The Harlequin theatre and a sports centre, Donyngs, with a sauna, squash and badminton courts, swimming pool and gym.

Redhill is slightly cheaper than Reigate. There is an abundance of good Thirties’ semis and detached houses with bay windows and steep cottage-style rooftops. One-bedroom flats cost £110,000 to £135,000, two-bedroom flats £150,000 to £180,000. New developments have sprung up around the station offering two-bedroom apartments from £200,000 to £250,000. You can buy little two-bedroom cottages from around £175,000, three-bedroom terraced houses for £180,000 to £200,000, and three-bedroom semi-detached houses for £200,000 to £250,000. Something more sumptuous, with four or five bedrooms and generous gardens, could be bought for £575,000.
