Box Hill & Westhumble

BOX HILL & WESTHUMBLE Just beyond the M25, London suddenly lets go and gives way to one of the best-known beauty-spots in the south-east. Box Hill itself rises to nearly 400ft above the River Mole and affords panoramic views of the surrounding chalk downland and glimpses of the South Downs. It has become very popular in spite of the fact that the approaches to it are given over to caravan sites. Big houses with big gardens attract the interest in Box Hill and sell for over £1m, though for many it is more a place to visit, than to live in. A 19th-century, three-bedroom detached cottage could cost £450,000.

Westhumble is no more than a handful of houses at the foot of Box Hill. Norbury Park is close by. There are three working farms and Bocketts Farm, a rare breeds farm open to visitors.
