STONEGATE itself is tiny and is becoming increasingly desirable. It is something of a drive-through village with a good primary school and several modern executive developments. Victorian three- to four-bedroom semis sell at around £340,000; four-bedroom Edwardian detached houses at £550,000. Neighbouring Ticehurst, is attractively set around a central square in a conservation area. Three horse chestnut trees guard the bus stop in the old village pump shelter. Shops include a village store, baker, butcher, pharmacy and greengrocer. There are also estate agents and a handful of pubs. Ticehurst has its own primary school and a good choice of local societies. It is more out-of-the-way than Wadhurst and prices are about 10 per cent cheaper.
