Denham
DENHAM and DENHAM GOLF CLUB If Denham had come straight out of the scenery department of the old Denham studios it couldn’t be more picturesque. Only 18 miles from London, it is a patch of rural peace – village hall, small green and a stream winding past wisteria-clad old brick. It would be perfect but for the pub visitors whose motors clog the lanes, accounting for the village’s sobriquet as ‘the prettiest car park in Buckinghamshire’. Several of the houses are well hidden behind high walls and wooded gardens, so the area is perfect ambassadorial territory and a retreat for distinguished performers in both courtroom proper and courtroom drama. A three-bedroom semi will command £329,000. Larger houses go for £1.75m up to £5m. The other Denhams – Higher, New and Denham Green, which has a post office – are simply a few streets of Thirties’ semis and bungalows, and Fifties’ houses, where a three-bedroom semi can be had for £299,000. Denham Golf Club is little more than a railway halt for the club.
