West Horndon
WEST HORNDON Classic between-the-wars and post-war suburbia has sprouted at West Horndon because of the sheer convenience of the rail service, though it somehow remains rural and most of the 1930s bungalows have 150ft gardens, many of them backing on to fields. The station attracts commuters along the A128 from Brentwood, who find it easier to drive south and catch the train here rather than tangle with the traffic in Brentwood or Basildon. A three-bedroom bungalow sells for around £300,000; a detached five-bedroom house for around £330,000.
Good for: sheer convenience.
