Brookwood
BROOKWOOD has the edge on Woking because people prefer the idea of living in a village, no matter how built-up it has become. The strangest fact about the station is that is was built originally to serve the enormous cemetery (created to take 1854 London typhoid victims), not for the convenience of commuters. Small cul-de-sacs of fairly new houses abound. A three-bedroom Thirties’ detached house would cost around £295,000.
Good for: M25, M3.
