LITTLE KIMBLE Many of the villages in this area sprawl rather than huddle, and Little Kimble is typical. Its straggling lanes contain a mix of properties from a few listed 17th- and 18th-century cottages to 1900s and modern houses. The station house itself is a private dwelling. Prices for average-sized houses can be around 10 per cent above those in Princes Risborough. A three-bedroom detached stable conversion could cost around £455,000, and very occasionally houses with large grounds and paddocks come on the market (Kimble races is an annual event). Although there is no focal point there is a pub, an Indian restaurant and a village hall. With only 800 on the electoral roll, most locals would be able to call ‘I spy strangers’ when prospective buyers come knocking. Local activities include the WI, a Pilates club and a horticultural society which knows where to look for the rare wild orchids which bloom on the old rifle range. There is also the British Legion. Walks in the area take in Chequers and Ellesborough church, where successive Prime Ministers have offered the occasional photo opportunity. All Saints’ Church at Little Kimble is renowned for its 14th-century wall paintings.
